In Scotland, there are many different communities working together to create a better future. Whether it’s collaborating to improve innovation, or uniting people through culture and music, Scotland brings people together to make good things happen.
Scotland’s collaborative spirit
Scotland is renowned for innovation but it’s our collaborative spirit that truly drives change. A unique partnership between Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh, the National Robotarium is a facility that brings together a team of engineers to address global challenges across a range of industries such as agriculture, construction, energy, health and social care.
At the National Robotarium, collaboration has been key to successful innovation. Experts at the National Robotarium are using a robot ‘dog’ called M.A.R.T.I.N.A, developed by American robotics design company Boston Dynamics, to research how robots can better support humans in hazardous environments. Watch our video to see M.A.R.T.I.N.A in action!

Powered by collaboration
Scotland is in the midst of a green energy revolution. In 2022, for the first time, the equivalent of over 100% of the electricity used in Scotland came from renewables.
The reality of decarbonisation is not easy - but it is vital, and it can only happen when we work together. We knew this when we declared a climate emergency and when we set our net zero targets. A tough road hasn’t deterred us. Generated from sources including wind, hydro and tidal, our green energy mix has been put into action to address the climate emergency. It also supports more than 42,000 jobs, bringing together the best minds to help reach net zero.
Our seas are home to rich offshore wind resources...and we even have the world’s largest floating wind farm. With plentiful wind and cutting-edge innovation, we’re determined to use green energy to create a better future, to show the world that it can be done and to bring others with us!
By working together, we’re turning Scotland’s wild weather into a force for good, leading the way in sustainable energy innovation. Filmed on Balmedie Beach near Aberdeen, this short film depicts Scotland’s strong presence in offshore wind.
